In this STEM Lesson, students learn about the importance of Self Management. They design, build, and test their own car ramp and test how height and steepness relate to how far their car travels.

Students also discover how to calm down and used patience using different self management techniques using the mindful moments strategy, activity, and writing prompt. A few posters are included for your classroom calm down space.

CASEL Framework: Self Management

This activity is a part of a series of STEM resources designed to follow the CASEL Framework for social emotional Learning.

The abilities to manage one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations. 
This includes the capacities to delay gratification, manage stress, and feel motivation and agency to accomplish personal and collective goals.

The Engineering Design Process:

Students plan, design, and execute their own ideas. After they have completed their activity, there is time for reflection on what worked and what didn't. They follow the six step Engineering Design Process: Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Experiment, Improve.
