Elementary STEM teachers—spark curiosity with this Pre-K robot + coding read-aloud STEM challenge. Designed for preschool and kindergarten STEM blocks, this playful lesson turns Robots, Robots Everywhere! into hands-on building, movement, and early computational thinking.
Perfect for STEM labs, makerspaces, and literacy centers, it builds vocabulary (computer, programmer), following directions, and fine-motor skills!
How to Use:
After the read-aloud, children work in partners as Programmer and Computer to build a robot using mix-and-match robot pieces. They role-play simple “coding” by giving and following step-by-step directions, then try a movement coding game with start/stop and arrow cards (look, step, move, spin, jump).
A short brain break (e.g., “Robot Dance”) keeps energy positive before kids share their creations and drawings.
Includes:
- Teacher instructions with launch prompts, partner roles, and a simple three-part flow (STEM challenge → movement break → extension)
- Build-a-Robot printable pieces (heads, bodies, arms, legs) for endless combinations
- Programming vocabulary poster (Computer vs. Programmer) and role cards
- Large “Programming Process” posters adapted for littles (identify → plan → build → test/debug → share)
- Start/Stop + directional coding cards for whole-group or center movement activities
- Student letter & drawing page for reflection and language development
- Makerspace consumables & reusable materials lists to stock your center year-round
Materials & prep:
Print and laminate robot pieces and coding cards; optionally add Velcro for easy re-use. Gather simple makerspace consumables (craft sticks, cups, pipe cleaners, tape, etc.).
Post the Programming Process visual and vocabulary cards to anchor mini-lessons, then run the partner build and movement code game.
Perfect for Pre-K/K STEM centers, literacy-to-STEM read-alouds, Friday rotations, family nights, and sub-ready plans.
Bring robots to life for your littlest engineers with a joyful blend of read-aloud, building, and beginner coding—no devices required.
