Teach Solids, Liquids, and Gases and Reversible and Irreversible Changes to Matter with this 2nd Grade Physical Science Activity!
In this Second Grade STEM Investigation, students explore how matter changes from solids, liquids, and gases through heating and cooling. They investigate an ice cube, observing what happens as it warms up.
Students also sort through different types of changes to matter, learning both irreversible and reversible changes.
This activity is the perfect companion to the read aloud Melting Matter by Amy S. Hansen. In the story, we can see the way that ice cream can change from a solid to a liquid and back again.
This STEM Challenge aligns to NGSS Standards for 2nd Grade Physical Science 2-PS1-4 but can be used in 1st-3rd grade.
